Celebrities We Have Lost So Far

2016 has been a tough year for fans and non-fans alike, as the world just became a sadder place. A lot of important public figures have died and they left some pretty big shoes for the next generations to fill. George Michael, Carrie Fisher, Prince, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Muhammad Ali, Alan Rickman and others have made the list of sorrow. Now it seems that 2017 is not over and it has already claimed the lives of some of the much-loved movie stars and singers. Here is a list of the celebrities we have already lost this year and we can only hope that it ends here.

John Heard

Although Macaulay Culkin is the ultimate star of Home Alone, we could not picture the movie without the whole McCallister family. The father, Peter McCallister, was played by actor John Heard. Among other projects the actor was involved in, we mention The Sopranos, Big, Beaches, Awakenings, The Pelican Brief, My Fellow Americans and many more. Unfortunately, John Heard died on July 21st, only two days after having undergone back surgery.

Chester Bennington

The news of the death of Chester Bennington has come as a great shock to everybody. In seems that the singer had been struggling with severe depression for many years. The 41-year-old artist was the lead singer with Linkin Park. The band experienced commercial success for the first time in 2000 with the Hybrid Theory album. Later on, album after album, it only consolidated the band’s success. Chester Bennington died on July 20th, the birthday of one of his best friends, unfortunately also on this list of celebrities who died in 2017.

Martin Landau

89-year-old actor Martin Landau died on July 15th. He was a representative of an older generation of actors and his biography includes playing a supporting role in an Alfred Hitchcock movie, North by Northwest and the role of Bela Lugosi in the 1994 movie Ed Wood. He won an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe Award. The actor died in a hospital, due to complications.

Nelsan Ellis

True Blood fans got some really bad news on July 8th when the actor playing Lafayette Reynolds died. Among other roles you may have seen Ellis in was the role of Martin Luther King Jr. in The Butler, and Bobby Byrd, a friend of James Brown in the biographical movie Get on Up. Nelsan Ellis died at the age of 39 due to heart failure. The actors had been struggling to quit drinking and this is a complication that appears in the case of alcohol withdrawal syndrome.

June 9th was the day the very first Batman actor, Adam West, died. He was 88 and he had an amazing career. The great thing about Adam West was the fact that he had become emblematic of DC Comics. Younger viewers may know Adam West from the voiceovers he did for The Simpsons and Family Guy, where he played fictional versions of himself.

Roger Moore

Sir Roger Moore died on May 23rd. Remember James Bond? This is a role he took over from Sean Connery in 1972. Another big role for Sir Roger Moore was that of Simon Templar in The Saint. The title of knight was granted to Sir Roger Moore in 2003 for “services for charity”. The famous actor died after losing the fight with cancer.

Chris Cornell

We mentioned Chris Cornell once again in this article. He was the friend of Chester Bennington, the Linkin Park vocalist who killed himself on July 21st. This date was the birthday of Chris Cornell. The singer would have been 53 if he had not died on May 21st. Cornell was the lead singer for Audioslaveand Soundgardenand he died right after a concert in Detroit. The cause of death in his case was also suicide.

Chuck Berry

Chuck Berry was one of the pioneers of rock and roll music and there probably is no person alive who does not know his famous hits like Johnny B. Good, Roll Over Beethoven and Rock and Roll Music. He was known for this lively performances, amazing showmanship, and lyrics about teenage life and consumerism. Chuck Berry died at age 90 of cardiac arrest on March 18th.

The Terminator, Weird Science, Alien, Predator 2, Twister, Titanic, Edge of Tomorrow and Nightcrawler are just some of the movies Bill Paxton starred in. Unfortunately, the famous actor died on February 25th from complications following heart surgery.

Al Jarreau

If you liked the Moonlighting series, then you loved the opening song. Some of you know that it was sung by All Jarreau, famous American musician. After an amazing musical career, Al Jarreau died on February 12th, after he was hospitalized for exhaustion. Aged 77, the artist was still performing and going on tour. In fact, at the time of his hospitalization on February 8th, he had to cancer several tour dates.

When actor John Hurt died, Harry Potter fans received a severe blow. With a career that spanned over 50 years, the English actor earned the appreciation of viewers and colleagues. Some of the amazing movies Hurt starred in are Harry Potter, The Elephant Man, Hellboy, The Skeleton Key, V for Vendetta and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. He was knighted in 2015. This is the same year when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. In 2017, the actor died on January 25th, only three days after his 77th birthday.

It is sad to think that 2017 is only half-way through and there are already such big names on the celebrity death list. Hopefully, the list will not become much longer by the end of the year. Even so, with every piece of bad news delivered, we feel it is the end of an era. We all grew up watching movies and listening to songs, we are all used to seeing these people perform.
